Both lutheran Churches in Brazil - IECLB and IELB - see themselves as Churches founded by Jesus Christ that have passed through the Lutheran Reformation process in the sixteenth century. They work together in the following commissions: LUTHERANS UNITED IN COMMUNICATION (LUC), INTERLUTHERAN DIALOG COMMISSION (CID) and INTERLUTHERAN LITERATURE COMMISSION (CIL).

The Evangelical Church of Lutheran Confession in Brazil is closely linked to the european migration movement. The first Lutherans were German immigrants who came in 1824, and settled in São Leopoldo. IECLB is made up of 18 synods, 398 parishes, 1.784 congregations, 1.087 preaching points, 550 male pastors, 70 female pastors, 42 deaconesses, 35 male catechists and 95 female catechists, 17 male diaconal workers e 92 female diaconal workers. It has 1,200.000 members. |

The Evangelical Lutheran Church Of Brazil was created in the settlements of German colonization in southern Brazil. Missionaries from the the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, USA, were sent to look for German Lutherans in need of pastoral care. Organized officially in 1904, it now has 615 male pastors, 1960 congregations, 415 established parishes, 54 eclesiastic districts. |
