Luther Hymns

We all believe in one true God

Luther very likely composed this hymn for Sunday of Trinitatis. The hymn was sung in evangelical services even before Luther published the “German Mass”. In 1526, Luther himself adopted the use in Wittenberg. As a confession of faith, the hymn was also sung outside of church, at burials. In 1542, Luther included it among those hymns to be sung at burial ceremonies. In order to study its theological contents, it is important to consult the catechisms of the Reformer. In its melody, Luther kept the old gregorian manner of the chanted latin creeds.It must have been composed in 1524.
The hymn can be found in Hinos do Povo de Deus (Hymns of the People of God), # 88 and in the Lutheran Hymnal, # 233.

Quer saciar-nos com carinho, alma e corpo preservar-nos;

Foi nascido de Maria, pelo Espírito gerado;

Guarda toda a cristandade e a conserva sempre unida;
